Blessed with a prematurely powerful voice, Kailash would impress his friends and family with his natural music talent even at the age of four.

Fact 3
In order to pursue his passion for music, Kher left home when he was 14 years old. He went to search for a guru or institution to elevate his talent in the field of music. Unfortunately, Kailash Kher was unable to find the right musical school for himself and thus, started learning the art by simply listening to it. He is a fervent listener of Indian classical and spent time listening to music of maestros like Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Kumar Gandharv and Pandit Gokulotsav Maharaj. Kher was heavily inspired and influenced by the Qawwali legend, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and still regards him as one of his greatest inspirations.

Fact 4
Kailash Kher worked extremely hard in order to continue his passion with an equal level of zeal throughout. He would attend some music classes so as to gain as much knowledge on the subject, as possible. He taught music to his students for an amount of Rs. 150 per session. With that, he took care of himself, paid for his personal expenses including food and lodging and even paid for his music and educational expenses.

Fact 5
After earning some money from his hard work, Kher became a part of his family friend’s sari export business. However, the business collapsed in 1999. No change possible without passion: Kailash Kher

"We have to change our attitude towards cleanliness. It is not the next person's responsibility. We are all equally responsible and are equal stakeholders," said Kailash Kher.

Kailash Kher at Safaigiri Awards
Earthy, super-strong vocals and vocal. That's Kailash Kher for you. The first two adjectives are common to all singers -- although Kher's voice could well be more power-packed than many; he does not need a microphone in smaller halls to reach the last row -- and the last has been a victim at the altar of political correctness. Kher is blunt, opinionated and not afraid to share it -- at the other end of his witty repartees are the khaas aadmi, and the aam aadmi's bad habits. But, in an engaging way.
Announcing the award for the cleanest park, he recalls the time he performed at Delhi's Qutub Minar with his band, Kailasa. "I was walking away after the show when graffiti on the walls of the monument caught my attention. 'Anil loves Sunita', it said. We Indians are great lovers. And we express it everywhere -- even on monuments. I say you show love, sure. But at home. Don't share that with us on public structures," he said.
Talking about the same issue, Vijay Dev, who came on behalf of the Chandigarh Administration, which looks after the Rock Garden, said, "If citizens have ownership of public structures, we will always get volunteers, who work with more passion and dedication than paid employees. We are lucky to have such volunteers who stop people from vandalism."
Dev said, "Chandigarh is called the City Beautiful because residents take pride in the city's assets, including the Rock Garden. And that pride ensures that we keep that tag alive: City beautiful."

Naresh Kumar, the chairman of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), who took the award for Connaught Place, the cleanest marketplace, gave all credit to the Council's staff and workers. "They are our safai sevaks. Their passion and devotion leads to what you see out there," he said.
While leaving the stage, Kumar "appointed" Kher as NDMC's cultural ambassador. In reply, Kher asked everyone to take a vow. "Let us all be ambassadors of this important mission called Swachh Abhiyan."
1. "We have to change our attitude towards cleanliness. It is not the next person's responsibility. We are all equally responsible and are equal stakeholders." Kailash Kher
2. "Unless there's passion, there will never be any revolutionary change. All we will be left with are run of the mill ideas." Kailash Kher

"DON'T REGRET IT"

New Delhi: Delhi University has started its new academic session and award-winning singer Kailash Kher, who couldn't be a regular college student of the university, doesn't regret the fact that he could only do a correspondence course.

Kher, who received the Yash Bharti Award from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav earlier this year, told IANS.

The singer, who hails from Meerut, says that earlier he used to "have a complex".

But after getting invited by prestigious institutes like the Indian Institute of Management and the Indian Institute of Technology to give motivational speeches, he realised that a 'literal degree' doesn't matter.
"A real degree is about your character. I don't regret at all (not studying in a college). God has given me something bigger to enlighten the world now. So, instead of regretting, I am thankful," he said.
Would he like to go back to college?
"At that time, money wasn't the only concern. There was time constraint too. I was looking after my parents, trying to earn money to survive... you know how students try to do things for pocket money and I was also trying to learn music. So, I couldn't concentrate on one thing. Now also, I don't have time, unfortunately," he said.
As of now, he is enjoying the love showered by his fans for crooning songs like ‘Jal rahin hain’ and ‘Kaun hain voh’ for S.S. Rajamouli's magnum opus ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’.
‘Baahubali’ is not like any other project for me. I was honoured, amazed, and overwhelmed to be a part of it before the film got released and became a superhit.
"We always believe that music heals people. In this particular film, I have also sung 'Shiv tandav stotram'. There is a scientific connect to it. If you listen to the tune and production of the sound, it has a wave which connects with each one of us...in our breathing, hormone and senses," said Kher.
So, is this the best work of the singer, who has given hit Bollywood songs like ‘Allah ke bande’ and ‘Mangal Mangal’?
"I definitely loved it the most... after 'Mangal Pandey: The Rising', the kind of music that gave me goosebumps while singing ..., he said.
He is also all praise for ‘Baahubali’ as it doesn't show India in bad light, something that most films based on India do.
"Movies that have won Oscar so far with India as a subject haven't glorified our tradition and culture. Most of them show our country's poverty or helplessness. So this way, India's image has become that of a third world country where only poor people stay," he said.
He believes that ‘Baahubali’ deserves "all the awards in the world" as it's not just the music but also the storytelling that is worth lauding for.
"It's a piece of art," said the singer, who is working on an untitled album with his band Kailasa.
